I started writing about two years ago, not for public consumption you understand but to appease the voices muttering in my head, begging me to tell their stories. One evening in July of 2015, I turned off my television, disgusted by the never ending stream of re-runs and B-runs that are typical summer fodder and I started reading again, like a woman possessed. I read everything I could get my hands on in the genres I loved at that time, being science fiction fantasy, action packed adventure and mind twisting mystery novels. I especially looked for trilogies or series of books and was known to buy an entire set including any new release available only in hard cover. I would then sit and read the entire series over the course of a week.
I'd purchased my first e-reader - a Kobo - in March of that same year in anticipation of a trip to Mexico to attend a destination wedding. I loaded it with enough books to last me the full two weeks and, by the time I'd returned from the trip, I'd read every book on the e-reader plus some new ones I'd purchased and downloaded while in Mexico. Then one day, while spending time on Twitter trying to figure out how it worked (technophile I'm not), I received a DM (Direct Message) from an author by the name of Sloane Howell. He offered to send me, for free, his book entitled The Panty Whisperer. Well, I'm sure you can imagine what went through my mind upon receiving that private message and you'd be right. Sloane and I have since talked about that first interaction and laughed over my less than enthusiastic response to his offer. We agreed it probably wasn't his best marketing idea but what it did do was pique my interest in the erotica genre. Now Sloane will tell you himself that he's a smut writer and, in fact, he's been tagged The Sultan of Smut by his faithful Facebook Harem fans but his book The Panty Whisperer was my gateway into the world of erotic romance writers. It was in anticipation of the release of Sloane's book The Matriarch that I purchased my third e-reader - a Kindle - which, in retrospect, I should have purchased in the first place. By that time, I was working on my second Kobo, having worn out my first. Sloane didn't, and may still not, publish on Kobo so I needed to purchase a Kindle in order to download The Matriarch. That purchase, of course, led me to the wonderful world of Amazon Kindle Unlimited and, with it, the sky became the limit for me as a reader of all things erotica. With my KU membership set up on an ongoing payment plan and a fresh foot in the indie community through my connection with Sloane, I began my journey as an erotic romance author. It is here I will admit to reading the ubiquitous FoSG and, while not the best writing or story line I've ever read, it, again, contributed to my overall fascination with the erotica genre. From there, I moved on to the likes of Jodi Ellen Malpas and her This Man and One Night trilogies, to CJ Roberts and her Dark Duet series, and then to my now-cohort in The Wicked Pen Writers Charlotte Hart and her White trilogy. I haven't looked back since. In September of 2015, I started writing a novel, which is still a work in progress. I became involved in various hashtag writing groups on Twitter and, through those, got to know a couple of The Wicked Pen Writers. I was eventually brought to the attention of Ashton Blackthorne, otherwise known as Mr. Blackthorne or Mr. B. He kindly requested I submit a sample of my writing for consideration and, after procrastinating, which is my forte, for several months and a second request to submit a sample, I wrote and sent him my short vignette called D'Artagnan. Within a week, Mr. B contacted me and extended an invitation to join The Wicked Pen Writers and the rest, as they say, is history. I have gone on to write the first novella in a series called The Rigger, which is close to being ready for publication, and have started on the second in that series. Hopefully, I can wrangle my propensity for procrastination under control long enough to complete that series and get back to work on my novel and bring it to publication. Until then, keep reading anything and everything you can put your hands on because there is nothing like the world an author creates for his or her reader. And please remember to leave a review on Amazon or Goodreads or, preferably, both. Authors depend on their readers' reviews.
